Fifty five per cent of the people surveyed in a poll by Gallup Pakistan have given the Nawaz Sharif government a favourable rating.  The current government gets a Green Card and the favourable
views exceed unfavourable views in the overall running of the government. The Net Performance Ratings for political leaders rated Nawaz Sharif (PML-N) at the top with a rating of a favourable 18 per cent while Imran Khan (PTI) was rated as minus 5 per cent unfavourable.
Gallup Pakistan in its Annual Public Pulse Report 2014 released on Saturday said that the survey has revealed that the present PML-N government's Performance Ratings are a huge improvement over the
PPP-Zardari-led government a year ago. A statement said there is an improvement of 59 percentage points in the rating of overall performance of the present government. The study is based on findings from a nationally representative poll in the rural and urban areas of all four provinces of Pakistan. The sample size was 2,596 adult men and women, face-to-face interviews, selected through probability sampling method and field work was carried out from January 6 to 13, 2014.
For the six key indicators including Economy, Pak-India Relations, Overall Foreign Policy, Terrorism control, Corruption control and Inflation control, the present PML-N government received positive comparative net performance ratings. The economy recorded a positive 48 per cent comparative net performance, Pak India Relations 22 per cent, Foreign Policy 33 per cent, Terrorism control 31 per cent, Corruption control 36 per cent and Inflation control recorded a positive 20 per cent net change.
On the issues of controlling inflation, terrorism and corruption, there is an improvement over the dismal ratings of the previous government in its last year, showing an improvement of 20 percentage points on the subject of inflation; 31 percentage points on control of terrorism and 36 percentage points on the control of corruption in government.
The Gallup Pakistan survey shows that the government's performance still gets a Red Card on controlling Inflation, terrorism and corruption. But the Red Card is not as bad as the one received by the PPP led government a year ago. Despite Red Cards on specific issues, the Nawaz Sharif-government gets a Green Card in the overall running of the government, as 55 per cent  give a favourable and 40 per cent give an unfavourable rating. A year ago only 27 per cent had given a favourable rating to the then PPP-led government while 71 per cent had given a negative rating.
The poll surveyed opinions about state institutions. The Net Performance ratings of the Armed Forces improved upto 49 per cent, the Supreme Court improved by 27 per cent while Parliament improved its rating to 8 per cent. However, the performance of other institutions including the police, lower courts and political parties got negative ratings.
