Remakes are common in every language and so is the case with Telugu industry. While remakes of Tamil films have a good run here, Hindi remakes have often been disastrous. Barring Gabbar Singh, no other Hindi remake has had a successful run at the box office. When Love Aaj Kal was remade into Telugu as Teen Maar, it was a huge flop.

Though Bodyguard was hit film in Hindi, Venkatesh’s attempt at doing a bodyguard failed badly. Even a Sankranti release could not salvage it. And now come Masala which is a remake of Bol Bachchan.

None of the film that have been inspired by a Hindi film are running here. One of the reasons is that the urban, youth audience are already watching in Hindi and have no intentions of watching the Telugu version.

So, the lesson learnt is that one should not make a remake if they cannot adapt to local sense and sensibilities. If they remake a film frame by frame, then it is bound to be a flop. Only directors who can take the basic story and tell it in their style must attempt remakes.
